TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Toledo Police say a suspect in multiple vandalisms told witnesses he was protecting them from aliens.

Police say the same man is believed to have vandalized ten west Toledo businesses Thursday, cutting cable and telephone wires going into the businesses on Laskey Road, Sylvania Avenue and Tremainsville Road.

“It was out for approximately four hours and basically someone cut the cable,” said Gary Webber, owner of CP Flooring. "It definitely affects the business because you don't know what customers are going to call in and possibly do business that would go somewhere else."

Police believe the suspect has some type of mental illness because of the justification he gave for cutting the wires.

"There's some evidence to believe it just might have been the work of one man who was not in his right mind," said Toledo Police Sgt. Joe Heffernan.

"It was annoying at first but after I understood what happened I had more sympathy for the person that did it," said Webber.
